College Choice
- Access and review college web sites.
- Do a preliminary List of Colleges of around 25 colleges. Meet with your counselor for a Junior interview to discuss plans.
- Attend Spring College Fairs.
- Attend Local College Nights.
- Compare Colleges.
- Between now and November, visit several colleges to get a feel for college in session and campus styles.
- Do a Financial Aid Calculator online to determine your Expected Family Contribution (EFC) at http://www.finaid.org
- List Colleges to visit.
- Request information from colleges:
----Viewbook (course catalog),
----Applications (usually not available before June),
----Freshman Profile,
----Costs & Financial Aid,
----Department or Activities of interest to you

Records - Testing and Academic
- March, May & June SAT I Tests. Register online and practice test at http://www.collegeboard.com
- Select rigorous course program for senior year. Consider courses required for your intended college major/program of study.
- Take May AP and IB. Tests.
- Take April or June ACT. Register online and take practice tests at http://www.act.org
- June SAT I Test
- June SAT II Subject tests. These are necessary for Early Decision and Early Action at private colleges.

Junior Year
July through End of Summer

College Choice
- Review college viewbooks and catalogs.
- A few more visits with a tour and information session; begin to note observations; ask questions; listen to questions of others.
- Compare colleges:
----take notes,
----complete worksheet,
----keep a journal,
----discuss visits with parents.
- List serious college options - around 10.
- Plan itinerary of fall college visits.
- Schedule fall interviews for private colleges.
- Receive Applications. Note Deadlines and Requirements. Familiarize yourself with Essays and forms.
- Do one or two trial Interviews.

- READ, READ, READ!
- Review any Test Booklets to practice, spot weaknesses. Use your PSAT results and test booklet to help on SAT I.
- Do volunteer work to earn community service hours for Florida Bright Futures Scholarship Program.
- Plan testing dates for senior year.
- Go to free test prep sites to raise your scores or take a formal test prep course.

Senior Year
September-Thanksgiving

 

College Choice
- Look for Health/Shot Records. You will need them when you enroll at college.
- Attend fall college nights and Jacksonville's National College Fair.
- Visit with college representatives at Stanton.
- Do thorough college visits (2-3 day maximum).
- Campus interviews.
- Complete application requests.
- Consider essay topics.
- Attend campus open houses.
- Do final list of college applications:

- End of campus visit program.
- Local college receptions for applicants.
- Alumni contact with applicants.
- Request housing forms and send deposits
- Deadlines for most college applications
- Colleges review applications
- Notification of Decisions on college applications

- Complete Florida Financial Aid Application (for Bright Futures).
- FAFSA Forms available for financial aid - do not mail until after Jan 1.
- December SATI an II/ACT Tests.
- January SAT I/SAT II Tests.
- Mid-year Grade Report to colleges

Senior Year
March - May

College Choice
- May 1 Common Response Date Acceptance of admission; withdraw other applications and write thank you note.
- Wait List Decision
- Visit Colleges offering admission - Final Choice

- Finalize plans for housing, financial aid, and scholarships.
- May AP/IB Tests retake SAT I/ACT for Florida Bright Futures Scholars if necessary.
